"The studio theme for this winter semester, which the collective is spending in Olga, is inspired by the current exhibition Critical Zones. Critical Zone is a term describing the layer absolutely necessary for the existence of life on Earth. It is an interdisciplinary intersection built on collaboration and exploration of what occurs below and above the ground in order to seek the basis for a comprehensive conception of life for all entities. All this forms the basic line of the exhibition by Bruno Latour and Peter Weibel at the Center of Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany, which is also generously accessible online.
Our intention is to continuously discuss Critical Zones, create our own responses, interventions and performances including documentation. The purpose of these activities is to broaden thinking about how art can communicate pressing issues related to the climate crisis and how to step outside the confines of exhibition spaces that may be inaccessible to many of the beneficiaries. Olga's focus and principles provide an optimal space to connect the global considerations outlined above to the local level."
