How did a beer bottle made in Germany end up in the pristine nature of the Arctic Circle? Director Steffen Krones decides to follow the route of plastic waste from continental Europe to the cliffs of Norway's Lofoten archipelago.
We're screening the film One World. Come to the screening of the documentary North Stream.
A filmmaker from Dresden and his friends build unique buoys equipped with a GPS locator to see how Europe's river network is connected to the ocean. From what was originally a solo venture born out of his horror at the fact that European waste is clogging even the most remote corners of the planet, Steffen manages to create a scientific project involving engineers, oceanographers and the public. Breathtaking shots of the monumental Norwegian countryside and scenes of the team's excitement at following the route of special buoys are interspersed with shocking images of plastic colonies occupying natural landscapes previously untouched by civilisation.
