Jan Daňhel and Adam Ol'ha's film ALCHYMICAL FURNACE begins at the point where the shooting of Jan Švankmajer's last feature film HMYZ ends. This opens the field for a peculiar "parasitic" film, which captures the everyday happenings inside the film and freelance work of Jan Švankmajer and the company ATHANOR, where his film works and exhibitions are exclusively created. The film is not only Švankmajer's portrait, but also brings to life, through cinematic means, an entity that was completely defining and inseparable for Švankmajer - his late wife Eva. She, together with producer Jaromír Kallista, energetically completes the alchemical triad of the "mixture" of ATHANOR. The film is a non-catalogical balance of their thinking and work to date, so it is not a mere summary documentary, but above all a lively, imaginative and playful situational film.
It also shows that even world cinema can be created "on the knee" and that through an authentic experience of the magical world, even death can be conquered.
