WE CORDIALLY INVITE YOU TO A GUIDED TOUR OF THE EXHIBITION
BABY, ZOOM
LUCIE ROSENFELDOVÁ + MATĚJ PAVLÍK
The guided tour, like the exhibition itself, will touch on the theme of scientific imaging that carries stories and myths about human creation. We will thus try to rediscover why we see little people inside sperm.
Following the exhibition tour, the artists will screen short films resulting from their individual research, which have informed their thinking about the joint exhibition. Rosenfeld will present her short film, Uteruses and Brains (Hm..fantasy). Pavlik will then present a video essay entitled Techniques and Technologies to Compensate for Powerlessness. After the screening, both authors will briefly introduce their research and try to answer the question of how and in what way their work can have common intersections, since they actually work rather side by side. They share moments of joy and frustration in their artistic work and Parenthood.
TECHNIQUES AND TECHNOLOGIES TO COMPENSATE FOR POWERLESSNESS
The video essay presents a specific case of the invention of frontier scientific technologies that were mostly invented and subsequently archived by the patent office during the 1980s in Czechoslovakia. Within the framework of the science essay, the author asks the question how to grasp these technologies in the present? The video essay, entitled Techniques and Technologies to Compensate Powerlessness, hypothesizes that the borderline scientific manifestations of the specific deployment of healing practices in the late 1960s-1980s in Czechoslovakia may be related to contemporary disillusionment and the failure of universal Marxist notions of emancipation. The attempt to treat individuals and public space in the hands of the late socialist healer may thus have been a way to individualize social risks and harms.

WOMBS AND BRAINS (AHEM..FANTASY)
Encountering images of one's own body during a medical examination can cause easy alienation. The film Uteruses and Brains (Hm..fantasy) is a short experimental documentary based on autobiographical memories and scientific narratives related to body memory. Through a camera lens, 3D visualization and simulation, the artist demonstrates her own way of looking at embodiment as an intersection of different memories and histories.
